RED has announced that the option of purchasing the Komodo on RED.com is suspended, due to high demand. For now, the “ADD TO CART” button is disabled. What are your chances to buy one before Christmas? (Answer: very low!) Read RED’s CEO statement below.
For now, the RED Komodo is out of stock in all major dealers (B&H, CVP, Adorama, and Filmtools). The only option to purchase it is by backordering. However, there are no guaranteed dates for shipping. As for the RED.com store, the “ADD TO CART” button has been disabled. Let’s read RED CEO, Jarred Land’s statement: “ Don’t Panic! In about an hour we are disabling the Buy Komodo order button on RED.com as the demand is so high that our direct backorders have become a bit of a runaway train. Both our factories in Irvine and Mexico are pumping out cameras in record numbers and will continue to be shipped to dealers every day so if you need a Komodo before Xmas hit up your favorite dealer to see if they have any or are getting any. Thank you all… the response to the baby dragon is incredible and it’s all because of you”

RED is well known (like many others) for its “SOLD-OUT” strategy. Even RED’s founder, Jim Jannard said once “You always close out the show with SOLD-OUT signs”. However, let’s not forget that this year was truly an unprecedented year in many aspects. The RED factory was closed twice, due to COVID and the fires in Southern California that caused to mandatory shut-down and evacuation of the RED factory in Irvine. Despite that, RED has managed to supply a large quantity of Komodos to consumers.
There are no stocks for the RED Komodo. As explained, all major dealers are in backorder status. Although you can’t preorder the Komodo on RED.com, you can still try your luck to preorder it from others (B&H, Adorama, Filmtools, and CVP). Anyway, the chances of getting one before Christmas are low…very low.
